Google Play Now Lets Users Run Private AI-Built Apps on Android
Apps built with Google AI Studio can now be installed on a user's own Android device through Google Play without being published publicly.

Google announced on October 13, 2026 a new Google Play feature for personal apps. Android users can describe and build an app with Google AI Studio, a practice often called "vibe coding", and then launch it on their own phone through Google Play using their regular Google account.
These personal apps stay private: they do not appear in Play search or listings and are not shared with anyone except their creator. They still have to follow Google Play's existing policies.
The feature is first available to users aged 18 and over in the United States. According to TechCrunch, Google sees it as part of a wider shift in which Play becomes a place to create software, not only to download it.
Google also announced other AI updates for Play, including comparison features in the Ask Play assistant and deeper integration of Play apps and games into Gemini conversations.
